Windows LIVE
January 11, 2006
Windows answer to Google and Yahoo continues to evolve. If you have not checked out any of the new LIVE beta’s, go here.
Currently I am running the new Windows Live Safety Center and am running the full service scan. 1 hour into it, and it shows I have 1 virus. Wonder why my on-board virus scan did not pick it up. Well, it won’t tell me what it is since it is still running, but I can not wait to find out! It seems to be hung at 57% trying to scan a Linux Distro! Excellent work Microsoft! Maybe Linux is the virus
I have also briefly looked at their new portal Live.com. When I tried to add my Hotmail, it kicked me to MSN.com, but when I went back to Live.com, my Hotmail was loaded on the portal page. A bit buggy I would say. It has a clean look and you can add content, but I think I am still partial to Google /ig and Protopage for these new Web 2.0 applications.
Oh, by the way, still at 57%…
Ipod Nano Restarts
January 5, 2006
There seems to be an issue with the Nano that it will restart each time you select the middle button on the Ipod. It can be when selecting an individual folder, or just turning it on. From the Apple discussion boards, it seems to be a rampid and big deal. But in Apple’s support database, it is not addressed.
I myself was having the issue on the main menu page when I selected the MUSIC folder. It would restart everytime. My first workaround was to turn the MUSIC folder off, and turn on the submenus (Artists, Albums, etc..). But this was a work around, not a fix.
From the discussion boards, the issue is related to podcasts. If you have sync podcasts and then delete the podcast, it still keeps the name of the podcast as sort of a virtual folder. You must go into iTunes with your Nano attached, and delete those folders as well. Voila, the Nano is fixed.
I sure hope Apple fixes this in the next Ipod Nano update or at the very least, make the workaround solution with podcasts easy to find on their solution website.
I am not weird!

Happy 2006!
I love to read John Dvorak each time I get PC Mag. Some times he makes me laugh, sometimes he makes me angry. In the January 2006 issue, in Johns”Inside Track“, he states the following:
“I Thought This Was Weird Dept.: According to research conducted by
Burson-Marsteller and the Economist Intelligence Unit, most top-level executives
would rather not become the CEO of their company. This applies worldwide,
except in Latin America, where apparently everyone wants to be the boss. And
this finding seems to be a growing trend. The rationale for it has to do
with a nebulous concept called work-life balance. In other words, the CEO
does not get to have enough normal fun—whatever that is. I’m not sure myself
since I’m too busy writing.
It’s possible that these well-paying jobs will eventually be peopled only by
workaholic jerks. That should have interesting ramifications in the
society and economy alike.”
I also feel that I do not not want to be a CEO, but work at a level that provides the income I need and the ability to also focus on other things that are more important than work, like my wife, my faith, and football ![]()
It was certainly good to read that my lack of drive to the top is not something abnormal, but in fact, a growing trend. Although I am from the last years of the baby boomer generation, I do have some Generation X in me.
But John’s last sentence does have me worried about my future boss…..
